NEW LENOX — Even in these economic times, kids can have plenty of fun Aug. 4 at the New Lenox Commons. The village will host Kids Fest along with extra activities at the French Market. Both are free and open to the public.
The Kids Fest will have jumping castles, face painting, a petting zoo, a fire truck, police IDs and gymnastics demonstrations.
Home Depot will also conduct a free kids workshop at the French Market. Children will be able to build toolboxes.
“They actually have the children do it themselves, along with an assistant,” said Trustee Annette Bowden.
The French Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Village Hall parking lot, 1 Veterans Parkway.
“It’s something nice for the kids, for the families,” said Mayor Tim Baldermann said. “Everything nowadays costs money.”
Proceeds from the Triple Play concert series pays for the other free events in the Commons, such as Kids Fest, he said.
