Two new trustees on Mokena Library board

Updated: August 31, 2012 6:10AM

Mokena Library has two new trustees on its board, with the recent appointments of Don McGuan and Ray Wagner.

They will serve until the next election in April 2013, and replace longtime library servants Phyllis Jacobek and Robert Neubauer, both of whom resigned at the end of June.

Jacobek served as a library trustee from 1986 to 1995, and became library director in 1997, a position she held until her retirement in 2010. Elected to the board in 2011, she said she is stepping down due to “severe health issues.”

Neubauer served on the library board for 19 years, 14 of them as board president.

Library director Cathy Palmer said Neubauer is spending more time in Florida.

“You have to give a lot of your personal time. I have fewer tomorrows than I did yesterday. My accomplishments are sufficient,” Neubauer, 76, said.

“Bob and Phyllis contributed greatly to the library over the years and they will be missed,” Palmer said. “I truly enjoyed working with each of them and learned so much over the years through their guidance.”
