Fundraiser planned for girl fighting leukemia

Updated: September 9, 2012 6:05AM

When Ashley Gustafik of Joliet was 6 months old, she was diagnosed with a mixed germ cell brain tumor. She is now 12 years old, and in December she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

On March 1, she underwent a bone marrow transplant at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. In June, doctors informed her family her transplant did not work. She was admitted back into the hospital July 17 for a second transplant and will be there for another two months until doctors can determine if this transplant is successful.

Her father, Kenneth Gustafik, has done everything possible to be with her through this tough time.

To help the family, the Ashley Gustafik Benefit Fundraiser will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at The Mansard Room, 301 Moen Ave., Rockdale. Donations are being sought for the raffle and silent auction.

Checks can payable to The Ashley Gustafik Trust Fund can be mailed to: Harris Bank, 801 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435, Account#4811089820, Tax ID#80-6226002

For information, contact Norma Gustafik, 815-474-1292, or Joanne Ward, 708-772-1995.
