2 New Lenox roads set for closures

Two roads will be closed in New Lenox for part of this month while Canadian National Railroad completes improvements at its crossing on Cedar Road and Nelson Road.
Cedar Road will be closed Aug. through Friday, and Nelson Road from Monday through Aug. 15, between Illinois Highway and Laraway Road. Detour routes will be posted during the closures.
New Lenox village engineer Will Nash said work will begin at the end of this month to create quiet zones at these crossings. Once barriers are installed to prevent vehicles from going around the railroad crossing gates, engineers will not be required to sound the train whistle when approaching an intersection.
Nash said this work will not require the roads to be closed.
