NEW LENOX — To honor fallen firefighters, the New Lenox Fire Protection District will have a silent parade at 7 p.m. Sept. 10.
The purpose is to show solitude and respect for people who have given their lives in sacrifice, John Harkenrider told the New Lenox Village Board on Monday. Harkenrider is a firefighter who is organizing the event.
The event is going to start at Lincoln Way West with a short tribute film, ringing bells, and moment of silence. Then the New Lenox firefighters will be joined by other area fire protection districts.
After the presentation, a parade of emergency service vehicles will begin the silent, lights-only parade. The procession will head east on Illinois Highway to Gear Road. It will proceed north to the village commons, exiting the south side of Veterans Parkway continuing south on Haven to Wildwood, then south to Illinois Highway, east to Cedar, turning north ending at Fire Station 1.
