Fundraiser set for teacher

Updated: September 21, 2012 6:15AM

MINOOKA — Friends of Minooka High School science teacher Sam Pavelka have organized a special fundraiser Thursday and are asking the entire MCHS community to come out and give their support.

Pavelka is battling a type of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma and is undergoing treatment. Because of the aggressive nature of the treatment, his wife, Cheryl, will be taking an unpaid leave of absence from work after their second child is born this fall. They also have a 2-year-old child, Taylor.

To help the Pavelka family, residents are encouraged to come out to Culver’s in Minooka (in front of Jewel on Ridge Road) between 4 and 9 p.m. Thursday (dine in or drive through).

Just let the cashier know you are there in support of the Pavelka fundraiser. A percentage of the evening’s sales will be donated to the Pavelka family to help them pay for medical expenses and bills.

If you can’t attend the event but would still like to help Pavelka and his family, you can make a donation at www.giveforward.com/pavelkafamilymedicalexpenses.
