JOHA hosts patient appreciation day

Updated: September 23, 2012 6:07AM

JOLIET — On Aug. 4, the JOHA Foundation held its annual Patient Appreciation Day to recognize and applaud the courage and strength of the community’s cancer patients as they face the daily battles of their illnesses.

This year’s event drew more than 200 people to celebrate the lives of the patients and their families, and also honor the memory of those who have passed on.

The theme, “Music Has the Power to Heal the Soul,” set the mood for fun activities such as raffle prizes, a cake walk, live music of the classic 1950s and everyone’s favorite year after year: bingo.

After much fun and refreshments, the day concluded with performances from Westminster Presbyterian Church choir; speeches from Dr. Sarode K. Pundaleeka the JOHA Foundation president, and Dr. Nafisa Burhani, JOHA Foundation chairman; and a skit by patient turned comedian, Bonnie Moss.

The JOHA Foundation is the charity arm of Joliet Oncology-Hematology Associates and sponsors this event each year along with the support of many of local businesses.
