The “then” postcard shows Main Street in Morris looking west from Liberty Street. The Washington House, owned and kept by C. O. Wagner, stood at the north side of Main, between Liberty and Wauponsee streets. The hotel was built in 1867, and had two sections added to the west in 1875 and 1877. The brick addition, seen here, surrounded a quarter block with an open court in the center. On the north was one long stable, filled with single stalls, while on the west were spacious shelters for carriages and wagons. The Now photograph shows a view of the old hotel complex looking east towards Liberty Street from Wauponsee Street.
