JOLIET — The Forest Park Community Center has announced a new executive director.
Bettye Gavin, who has previously served as executive director of the National Hook-Up of Black Women and the Joliet Area Congregational Organized Body, will take over administration of the Forest Park Community Center.
She replaces Tony Ray, who succeeded Louise Ray, the center’s founder, after her death.
“I look forward to utilizing my leadership, program development, grant writing and fundraising skills to guide and strengthen the center’s impact on its community and the people it serves,” Gavin said in the written announcement put out by the Forest Park Community Center.
Roy Smith, president of the organization’s board of directors, called Gavin an “excellent choice” and noted her past experience with community organizations.
“Bettye’s energy and enthusiasm for working as a community leader is insatiable,” Smith said.
