SHOREWOOD — Trinity Christian School welcomed back more than 300 students Aug. 20 and started out the year with a new school administrator.
Randy Peterson was named school administrator earlier this summer. He comes to the school with more than 30 years of experience as a Christian educator — the last eight of those as a school administrator.
“I believe in the Christian education philosophy,” Peterson said. “You’re not only giving students an education but you’re teaching them to serve God.”
Peterson started out in Christian education shortly after high school when he was asked to volunteer as basketball coach and athletic director at Kishwaukee Baptist School in Rockford. It was his experience as a coach that helped him find his calling for Christian education and he went back to school and earned a degree in education (with minors in Bible and Physical Education) from Baptist Bible College.
“I enjoy watching kids mature in their faith and knowledge,” Peterson said. “And now, I enjoy helping younger staff members grow in their vocation.”
Peterson’s experience includes positions at Christian schools in Rockford, Quincy and in other states including Maryland where he also served as athletic director and he was named high school Coach of the Year for his county by the Baltimore Sun. His teams in Carroll County also won state championship titles three years in a row.
“We are blessed to have Mr. Peterson at Trinity,” said Dr. Frederick Alexander, school board president. “His educational background and his devotion to Christian education provide an opportunity for continued growth in student enrollment and in fostering relationships with our churches and communities.”
Peterson lives in Newark with Donna, his wife of 36 years, and his son, Jordan, 21 and his mother-in-law, Marian Kahle. Peterson and his wife also have two adult children, Kelly and Brent, who live out of state. They have one grandchild and are expecting another grandchild this fall.
Trinity Christian is a private non-denominational school at 901 Shorewood Drive.
