NEW LENOX — Inspiring children to explore new interests, Dierdre Dalton, 15, is exploring her own. She is planning an event, “Find Your Child’s Passion,” to achieve the highest Girl Scout Gold Award.
“If a child finds a passion in an organization, they will become a better teen and adult,” according to Dierdre’s flier.
The event will be fom 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Liberty Junior High.
Dierdre has gathered together organizations that would appeal to kids. She is inviting parents to bring their kids to see what kinds of activities they might be interested in.
“She’s got a great plan, and something new,” said school board President Nick DiSandro.
DiSandro, Dierdre’s sponsor, said the sophomore at Lincoln-Way West is organized, and sends him regular updates. She is also organizing a free raffle.
A Girl Scout who earns the elite award automatically gains a rank in the U.S. military, according to the organization’s website.
