BOLINGBROOK — Police say a Joliet man broke into the homes of a woman and a 77-year-old man Thursday.
Lt. Mike Rompa said police were called at 7:15 a.m. to the 400 block of East Briarcliff Road after a resident reported seeing a man’s shadow outside her sliding glass door.
Rompa said the man opened the storm door and attempted to open the sliding door.
The woman went to the glass door, hit it with her hand and yelled at him, Rompa said.
Police believe the man ran to the 500 block of Briarcliff where a 77-year-old man lost power in his house and went to check the circuit breaker in his garage.
Rompa said he was met by a man dressed in black who demanded money and ordered the senior back inside.
When the man refused, “a struggle ensued and the victim was battered.”
Sidney J. McVay, 21, of 358 N. Broadway, reportedly was identified by both victims as the suspect.
He was charged with home invasion, aggravated battery to a senior citizen, unlawful restraint, attempted robbery, residential burglary and attempted residential burglary and booked into the county jail.
