Will County’s first human West Nile case reported

JOLIET — A Romeoville woman in her 40s became Will County’s first confirmed human West Nile virus case for 2012 early Friday.
The woman initially reported symptoms including fever, stiff neck, headaches, a rash, acute sensitivity to light and confusion.
She was hospitalized Aug. 7 and discharged Aug. 15.
No other information about her convalescence or health status is available.
West Nile virus is a potentially dangerous viral disease that can be transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.
The Illinois Department of Public Health had reported 59 human infections and two fatalities. Since 2005, Will County has totaled 59 human infections and two fatalities.
Minooka positive
A mosquito trap in Minooka detected a mosquito infected with West Nile virus, village officials announced.
Traps in the village are monitored by Clarke and the Illinois Department of Health.
Clarke will go forth with a scheduled fog application on Sunday evening as part of Minooka’s control program unless inclement weather creates a problem.
