JOLIET — Six teens were arrested Thursday after allegedly mugging two Joliet Central students.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said police were called around 3:30 p.m. to the 100 block of East Cass Street where a witness reported the group beating up the two boys.
An ambulance was called to treat the victims for “minor injuries” as they told officers they’d been walking home when a group jumped them and stole a baseball cap and iPhone, Roechner said.
“Sgt. Mike Reilly was responding when he saw individuals matching the desctiptions in the 300 block of Cass,” Roechner said. “One of the suspects was wearing the ballcap the victim had described as being stolen from him.”
Jeremy J. Harris, 19, four 15-year-old boys and one 14-year-old boy were reportedly identified as the attackers and taken into custody.
“During the ride to the station the officers noticed one of the juveniles shifting in the back seat and found he was trying to take out the (stolen) iPhone,” Roechner said.
Harris, of 409 N. Broadway, and the others were arrested on charges of robbery, aggravated battery and mob action and booked into the county jail and River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
