Events planned to remember Sept. 11

JOLIET — To honor the memories of those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, Joliet Junior College will host a memorial ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road.

The ceremony will be held at the Alumni Bell Tower, which is located in front of the Campus Center.

The Will County Sheriff’s Rifle Squad, the Joliet Police Department Color Guard and the Joliet Fire Department Pipe and Drum Unit will also participate in the outdoor ceremony, which will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. and is expected to last 30 to 45 minutes. Attendees are asked to arrive no later than 8:35 a.m.

Following the event, there will be a video tribute in the cafeteria and a presentation by Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan, who will speak about his experience helping with recovery at the World Trade Center site. Refreshments will also be served.

Lockport ceremony

LOCKPORT — The Lockport Police Department and Lockport Township Fire Department will host a memorial service in remembrance of Patriot Day at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at 222 E. Ninth St. at Lockport’s City Lawn and Fountain.

The national and local colors will be presented by a joint fire and police honor guard, and the service will end with the solemn ringing of the fire station bell to remember those who were lost in the terror attacks on 9/11/2001.

New Lenox event

NEW LENOX — The New Lenox ShareFest Steering Committee 2012 invites the community to the Patriot Day — Sept. 11 Remembrance and Recognition Ceremony at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday at the Firefighter’s Memorial, New Lenox Commons, Veterans Parkway.

In case of rain, the ceremony will take place in the New Lenox Village Hall.
