Touch-a-Truck event Saturday at Galowich YMCA

JOLIET — Residents of all ages are invited to attend the Galowich Family YMCA’s Touch-a-Truck event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at its Joliet location, 749 Houbolt Road.

As part of this family-friendly event, more than a dozen trucks, tractors and big-rigs will be on display. Children will have the opportunity to climb into and/or on the trucks and to talk with the drivers while learning about the vehicles and pedestrian safety.

Additional festivities will include music, giveaways and photo opportunities.

Boys and girls, ages 8-13, will have the opportunity to participate in the Ford Escape Soccer Skills Challenge.

Admission is free.

School candidate petitions

ROMEOVILLE — Petitions for candidates for the four Valley View School Board seats that will be contested next spring will be available beginning Sept. 25.

Seats currently held by Liz Campbell, Ronnie Bull, Jim Curran and Chrystal Hansen will be on the April 9 ballot. All seats are for four years.

Petitions are available at the administration center, 755 Dalhart Ave., or by visiting www.elections.state.il.us. Candidates need the signatures of at least 50 registered voters.

The first day to file for election is Dec. 17.
