New Lenox OKs liquor license for Kmart

Updated: October 19, 2012 6:03AM

NEW LENOX — The New Lenox Village Board just made it a little easier to buy alcohol last week when it granted a class B liquor license to Kmart.

The new license hopes to bring in more business, said Lamaria Haynes, store manager. The store often gets people coming in during race season asking for alcohol.

Kmart is at 1500 W. Lincoln Highway, near the Interstate 80 entrance.

The license allows for beer, wine and liquor sales, Mayor Tim Baldermann said. Granting the license to Kmart gives the store the same as what Jewel and Wal-Mart already have, he said. Those stores are also on Lincoln Highway.

Haynes said that the action to seek the license was a corporate directive.
