CHANNAHON — CSI: Bacon.
The remains of a pig were found in the Illinois & Michigan Canal on Wednesday morning. Police closed Channahon State Park for several hours while investigators confirmed the bones were not human.
Around 8 a.m. a passer-by found the bones on the shore and called police.
“They weren’t sure what they were, called (Channahon) officers who also weren’t sure and called the state, “ Police Chief Jeff Wold said.
State police have jurisdiction over the state park and brought an animal specialist to the scene.
“They determined it is the joint of a pig, appears to be the knee,” Wold said. “It made for a busy morning but I’m relieved that’s all it was.”
The bike trails and access lots were reopened late Wednesday morning.
