MORRIS — Deputy Greg Butterfield was awarded the Illinois MADD Heroes Award, Grundy County Sheriff Terry Marketti announced.

Marketti said Butterfield was nominated and chosen for the award based on his aggressive DUI enforcement, his commitment to supporting MADD’s campaign to eliminate drunken driving and his overall efforts to making the roads safer throughout Grundy County.

A panel consisting of officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the office of the Illinois secretary of state and Mothers Against Drunk Driving reviewed the nominations from across the state and selected the top officers.

The Illinois MADD Heroes Award banquet was Sept. 22 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield.

Twenty-five of the state’s top law enforcement officers were recognized at the banquet.
