PLAINFIELD — John Harper, superintendent of the Plainfield School District, will retire in July 2014.

The Plainfield School Board on Tuesday announced a succession plan.

According to the district, the planning process requires that it begins its search for a new deputy superintendent, who then will assume Harper’s duties upon his retirement.

The school board has invited a pool of candidates to meet with it to be considered for the position.

Once a pool of qualified candidates is formed, the district will create two committees. One will be made up of staff members and parents; the second of administrators.

The committees will interview candidates and share their feedback with the school board.
