Police Blotter: Man charged with attempted murder in attack outside bar

Updated: November 2, 2012 6:12AM

JOLIET TOWNSHIP — A 32-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly ambushing a couple outside a bar Saturday.

Darrius L. Williamson, of 116 Davison St., also was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

At 3:20 p.m. a 26-year-old Joliet man and his 25-year-old girlfriend arrived at Jerry’s Place, 1827 E. Washington St., where she got out of a Dodge Durango.

The woman told deputies a man walking down the street took out a handgun and pointed it at her boyfriend in the car, reports said. She screamed and “hit the deck” as a shot was fired.

Both the victim and his attacker ran from the scene before police arrived to find the Durango with a bullet hole in the windshield.

Deputies searching the area found Williamson, who reportedly matched the shooter’s description, by an old car in a back yard on Anderson Avenue.

“He was under the hood (motioning) as if working on the vehicle but had no tools or parts,” police said. “The four flat tires and vegetation growing around the car made it appear the vehicle has been there for some time.”

Williamson was brought in for questioning and booked into the county jail about 8:45 p.m.

According to reports, Williamson was arrested in April 1999 for holding up a convenience store on South Briggs Street.
