50 years ago, 1962

Archie McAllister, son of the man who is credited with founding the school band movement in America, leads his Harwood Post American Legion Band into competition in Las Vegas, Nev., for its 15th national title. The band is a memorial for the renowned, late A.R. McAllister.

25 years ago, 1987

An attorney for the Crow’s Nest in Crest Hill says he will try to get his client’s record cleared and fines reimbursed due to a ruling by the Illinois Supreme Court. The court ruled that a 1982 law banning the sale of drug paraphernalia is unconstitutional. That’s the same law that was used to uphold the confiscation of hundreds of thousands of dollars of merchandise from Floyd Crow’s record store in 1985.
