New Lenox fire district to host open house

Updated: November 10, 2012 6:07AM

NEW LENOX — The New Lenox Fire Protection District will host an open house beginning at noon Saturday at Fire Station One, 261 E. Maple St., to celebrate Fire Prevention Week.

The public is invited to tour the station, meet the firefighters, ride on the fire engines and see a Lifestar helicopter.

There will be free hot dogs, cake, popcorn and refreshments. Children can enjoy games and visit the fire safety house to learn how to prevent fires and how to react if the smoke alarm goes off in their house. Opening ceremonies are at 1 p.m.

“The open house allows citizens to see the district operations and increases the awareness to prevent fires in the home,” Fire Chief Jon Mead said.

For more information about the open house, call (815) 463-4500 or visit
