Early Days

50 years ago, 1962

A burglar, small in stature, climbed through a window on the west side of the refreshment stand at the Hilltop Drive Inn on Maple Road, but apparently was frightened away before taking anything of value. Merchant police found the window pane shattered and made an investigation with the aid of county police. The south door was found open and a door to the walk-in freezer was opened.

25 years ago, 1987

Tanya Libby, the Romeoville High School student who wants to play soccer, reached a tentative settlement to join the boys team in conference games but still may have to skip tournament play. Sheri Rothenberg, attorney for Libby, said the South Inter-Conference Association will allow Libby to continue playing in all conference games without penalty to the team. A SICA rule previously barred girls from competing on boys teams.
