Updated: November 11, 2012 6:09AM

BOLINGBROOK — Families who have lost their housing through economic hardship can find help for a variety of problems at a Families in Transition Support Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Bolingbrook Community Center, 201 Canterbury Lane.

The event is sponsored by Will County Regional Superintendent of Schools Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, the Will County Regional Office of Education, Valley View School District and DUCAP.

School staffers and service workers will help families gain an understanding of their children’s educational rights and provide information about health insurance and medical care.

Information about nutrition, credit counseling and credit rebuilding, housing counseling and eligibility for rental assistance or affordable housing is also available, along with a story time for children and free books to take home. Lunch will be provided.

Bringing documents, such as identification cards, Social Security cards, medical cards and income information, may help families apply for services.

To attend from the Valley View area, contact Michele Bochnak, community outreach coordinator, at 815-886-2700 Ext. 297 or email BOCHNAKML@vvsd.org From all other Will County areas, call Ron O’Connor, Will County homeless liaison, at 815-740-4787 or email roconnor@willcounty
