Will Co. Executive Walsh taken by ambulance for nose bleed

JOLIET — Will County Executive Larry Walsh was taken from the county office building by ambulance to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon with an uncontrollable nose bleed.
The Elwood Democrat was treated in the emergency room for about an hour and then sent home, spokeswoman Anastasia Tuskey said.
“We just had trouble getting it stopped,” she said. “So we probably overreacted a little bit by calling the ambulance.”
Tuskey said Walsh’s staff didn’t want to take any chances, though, because “he is the big guy and we have to make sure he’s safe.”
She said Walsh takes medicine for high blood pressure, but no one thought that contributed to what happened on Wednesday.
Emergency room doctors recommended Walsh see his doctor as a precaution, which he did Thursday afternoon.
Tuskey said late Thursday afternoon that Walsh planned on attending a pre-scheduled candidates forum at 7 p.m. at the University of St. Francis that was organized by the Community Services Council of Will County.
Walsh, 64, is a former state senator and Will County Board member. He has been county executive since 2004 and he is running for a third term against county board member and Will County Forest Preserve District board President Cory Singer, R-Frankfort, in the Nov. 6 election.
