The winners of the Lincoln-Way Foundation Dream Raffle were drawn at the Lincoln-Way East versus Lincoln-Way Central football game.
The grand prize winner of $36,696 was Lou Filosa of Mokena.
The Dream Raffle Campaign was directed this year by co-chairs Bob Chiszar of Mokena, Greg Hobbs of Frankfort and Julie Kirkeeng of New Lenox.
“We are so excited that the grand prize winner of the drawing is a long-time supporter of Lincoln-Way, and of the Lincoln-Way Foundation,” said Chiszar. “He has been there for the foundation, for Lincoln-Way students, and for the district over the years. We were all thrilled when his name was announced.”
Filosa arrived at the game after the drawing, and was told that the foundation was looking for him. In typical Filosa fashion, he approached the foundation directors asking what they needed, looking for how he could help.
“I really wasn’t focused in on the fact that the drawing had taken place,” said Filosa. “I was stunned when they told me I won the grand prize. We support the foundation because of the good things they do for our Lincoln-Way students. I always considered the purchase of the ticket as a way I could help out a little.”
After discussing the winnings with his wife, it was decided that they wish to give a large part of the winnings away over time to assist others who are facing challenges. The Filosa family already funds a Lincoln-Way scholarship in honor of their daughter Sarah.
The winners of $1,000 prizes were Kathleen Bourke, Mokena; Janet Chandler, New Lenox; Bernard Gross, Foster City, Calif.; Al Heath, Frankfort; Amanda Hren, New Lenox; Nicole Joseph, Frankfort; Carol Maloney, Joliet; and Bob and Nance Rodriguez, Frankfort.
