PLAINFIELD — County property that once was residential has been rezoned to general industrial and annexed into Plainfield’s village limis.
Village officials on Monday approved the annexation and rezoning of approximately 31.4 acres of land at 22419 Renwick Road. The Will County parcel is south of Renwick Road and west of Interstate 55.
Planner Jonathan Proulx said there property is separated from Renwick Road to the west by eight single-family residential lots.
Proulx said there is a large, man-made lake in the central area of the property. He said it makes sense to rezone the parcel to office, research and light industrial.
But Proulx said officials believe it is important to protect the residential character of the portion of the property that is near or adjacent to existing homes.
Trustee Bill Lamb agreed with that assessment.
Local resident Joanne Crowley said she does not want to see the area congested with the zoning change.
“We just don’t want the increase in traffic,” she said. “The area is busy enough with truck traffic.”
