Several Lincoln-Way-area businesses are offering discounts through Nov. 16 in exchange for donations to Operation Care Package, which sends packages to the troops at Christmas.
Dave’s Auto, 11120 W. Front St. in Mokena, will take $5 off an oil change in exchange for an item off the wish list.
Eclectic Attic, in the Trolley Barn in downtown Frankfort, offers a 10 percent discount on all new merchandise.
Anyone dropping off a donation at EmbroidMe, 2457 E. Joliet Highway in New Lenox, will be entered into a raffle for a hooded sweatshirt to be embroidered with the donor’s favorite high school team logo.
Items on the wish list for care packages include boxes of protein/granola bars, instant oatmeal, instant hot chocolate, one pack of AA or AAA batteries, three cans of hearty soups, stews, tuna, chicken, ravioli or fruit, one bag of chocolate bars/Kisses, one new movie DVD, blankets, sweat pants, sweatshirt, adult board/card game, work gloves, an 8- to 18-inch Christmas tree, or a three-pack of men’s white or black socks.
For a complete list of items that qualify for the discounts, visit www.operationcarepackages.org.
Funds also are being raised to send DVDs in these care packages. The DVDs include greetings and well wishes from local veterans groups and community members and feature footage of the volunteers of Operation Care Package at work.
Checks, payable to Operation Care Package, can be sent to Tim Howe at P.O. Box 84, New Lenox, IL 60451.
