Kendall gets lower bids for Park-n-Ride buses

YORKVILLE — Bids for the vehicles for the new Park-n-Ride being run by Kendall County and Oswego came in lower than expected this week.
While no decision was made, Kendall County Board members got a chance to look at the seven bids from three companies for the two vehicles that will give commuters rides from the lot at Mill Street and Orchard Road in Oswego to the Aurora Transportation Center.
Oswego and Kendall County have entered into an agreement for the Park-n-Ride service.
Last month, Oswego voted to end its contract with Pace, the suburban bus system, which had been providing the Park-n-Ride service.
If Oswego had stayed with Pace, it would have cost $95,000 for next year. Oswego staff estimated going through the Kendall Area Transit program instead would cost between $80,000 and $88,000. That cost could be even lower, with the way the bus bids that have come in.
In addition to being cheaper, there will be two additional routes in the morning with the KAT service.
Oswego will sell passes to people who want to use the Park-n-Ride, although there will be a way to collect a fare for one ride at a time.
Pace has scheduled a hearing for Nov. 5 in Oswego to provide information on the discontinuation of its handling of the Park-n-Ride service. The hearing will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Oswego Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill.
