JOLIET — A Shorewood man faces three to 14 years in prison for his role in the death of a Naperville man killed in an auto crash in Plainfield last year.

David C. Dietrich, 33, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Will County court to a charge of aggravated DUI, stemming from the death of 58-year-old George Weikum last year. The crash occurred Oct. 8, 2011, at Route 59 north of Joseph in Plainfield.

Weikum, who was on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Weikum’s widow and daughter have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Dietrich, along with the golf club that served him alcohol before the wreck. Authorities say Dietrich was drinking while working at a golf outing for Victory Baseball 9U Victory Gold at the Tamarack Golf Club in Naperville, then got behind the wheel of his car.

Tamarack Golf Club and Victory Baseball also were named as defendants in the lawsuit

Dietrich’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.
