Republicans made history in Will County with the election of Clara Hartley Woodard as county clerk. It is the first time a woman has been named to a county office in the county’s 125-year history. She joins ranks with 14 other women county clerks in the state. Democrats captured two of seven Will County offices in the election, including former Joliet Police Chief Joseph F. Trizna as sheriff and J. Leo Waldvogel as treasurer.

A pair of filed-down butcher knives were found hidden under bushes outside the Will County Courthouse, but police aren’t sure why they were put there. Will County sheriff’s Lt. Shirley Eichholzer said the knives, which were hidden in a black plastic case, were discovered by a sheriff’s department maintenance employee.
