Police say an Army recruiter sexually abused a teenage girl for two years while her family was living in Bolingbrook and Romeoville.
Justino Muniz-Munoz, 43, was booked into the county jail Friday on a charge of predatory criminal sexual assault.
Will County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said Muniz-Munoz was in a relationship with the now 14-year-old victim’s mother and living with them from the summer of 2009 until July 2011.
“The family moved out of state and the victim told school staff there,” Hoffmeyer said. “They notified our investigators and the U.S. Army was also involved since Muniz-Munoz is an Army recruiter.”
The teen participated in a victim-sensitive interview and Muniz-Munoz was questioned about the case in June, Hoffmeyer said.
“Shortly after that interview he tried to commit suicide by drinking drain cleaner and was hospitalized,” Hoffmeyer said.
A warrant carrying a $300,000 bond was issued in August.
Muniz-Munoz is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 3.
