50 years ago, 1962

A youth was seen climbing out of a high east window of the Herman Herzog Market on Doris Avenue and a companion was spotted walking in the vicinity of the market. Inside, county police found the store had been burglarized, and five gallons of bleach were spilled on the floor, along with 10 bags of flour, eight bags of sugar, and two boxes of salt, on top of which was poured a bottle of molasses.

25 years ago, 1987

Former Joliet resident Phillip A. Pasteris, 35, was honored in Washington, D.C., for his contributions to the National Weather Service. Pasteris, a senior hydrologist for the weather service in Portland, Ore., helped to develop a standard format for data exchange between the weather service and other federal
agencies.
