Voters decide ballot issues

Manhattan-Elwood Public Library District: Should the library issue $3.5 million in bonds to buy, remodel and furnish the HomeStar Bank Building as the district’s new library?
Yes: 2,510 No: 3,112
Wilton Township: Should property taxes be raised to pay for the renovation of the township’s community building?
Yes: 205 No: 298
Statewide: Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to require a three-fifths majority vote in order to increase a benefit under any public pension or retirement system?

Lockport voters, as well as residents in Manhattan and New Lenox townships, favored giving their local governments the authority to arrange for their supply of electricity in voting Tuesday.
Lockport voters were 52.65 percent in support and 47.35 percent in opposition, with all precincts reporting.
Manhattan Township voters were 55.18 percent in support and 44.82 percent in opposition, with all precincts reporting.
New Lenox Township voters were 54.56 percent in support and 45.44 percent in opposition, with all precincts reporting.
In other ballot issues:
In Homer Glen, voters decided whether the village will continue as a home-rule unit of government. Voters were 74.57 percent in support and 25.43 in opposition, with all precincts reporting.
The Manhattan-Elwood Public Library District asked for $3.5 million in library bonds to buy, remodel and furnish the HomeStar Bank Building. Voters were 55.35 percent in opposition of the measure and 44.65 percent in support with all precincts reporting.
In Wilton Township, voters decided whether property taxes should be raised to pay for the renovation of the township’s community building. Voters were 50.36 percent in opposition and 49.64 percent in support with all precincts reporting.
Statewide, a proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution aimed to make it more difficult for officials to improve retirement benefits for public employees. The proposal had 56 percent support with 5,545 of 10,089 precincts reporting.
