A raging multimillion-dollar pre-dawn fire destroyed three major retail stores on Schuyler Avenue in the heart of downtown Kankakee. Demolished were Lasser’s Furniture Store, the Osco Drug Store, and Samuel’s Women’s Apparel shop. The buildings and contents were burned out.

Despite the possibility of a slate-to-slate battle in the March primary, Will County Republican Party Chairman John Annerino denies that the party is divided. Announcing his candidacy for state’s attorney last week, Joliet Mayor Charles Connor said he will throw as many candidates as possible against the Republican organization in the primary election.
