The Channahon Police Department and Police Chief Jeff Wold accepted delivery of an outfitted ATV that will be used in situations where an off-road vehicle is necessary.

With the village’s miles of parks and trails — including the I & M Canal towpath — railroad right-of-ways and agricultural fields, the department realized an all-terrain vehicle would be useful for patrol, enforcement and rescue in more remote areas.

The vehicle was donated by local industry Aux Sable Liquid Products on Route 6 in western Channahon.

Aux Sable has supported area fire protection districts, including the Minooka Fire Protection District, in the past with donations of equipment.

“We want to be responsible neighbors,” Aux Sable public affairs manager Scott Seibert said as the vehicle was driven in front of Village Hall just before a board meeting. “We hope this vehicle can be used as a tool for community emergencies and other needs.”

Village President Joe Cook thanked the industry’s representatives for what he said were investments Aux Sable has made in the village since it first established itself in town.
