U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.is no longer a patient at the Mayo Clinic, according to a spokesperson there. The revelation comes as reports persist about a federal investigation into the congressman and it possibly expanding to his wife, Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th).
“As of today he is no longer at the Mayo Clinic,” Mayo Clinic spokesman Nick Hanson confirmed through an assistant.
Hanson said he does not know where Jackson is. Jackson was re-elected to his 2nd District seat last week although he made no campaign appearances during his lengthy stay at Mayo for depression and bipolar disorder. Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed was the first to report last week that Jackson is in plea negotiations with federal authorities.
Sneed reported not only is Jackson under investigation for allegedly using campaign funds to decorate his Washington home, but investigators are also trying to determine whether he used campaign funds to buy a $40,000 Rolex watch as a gift for a female friend.
On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal cited sources who said investigators are reviewing evidence suggesting that Sandi Jackson was complicit in any alleged misuse of funds.
