Volunteers sought for citizenship workshop

JOLIET — Volunteers are needed for a citizenship workshop where volunteers will assist applicants in completing the application for naturalization.

A training sessions will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at Joliet Central High School, 201 E. Jefferson St. Volunteer attorneys are also needed. Training will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at Family Focus — Aurora, 550 Second Ave.

Public hearing on district tax levy Dec. 17

PLAINFIELD — The Plainfield School Board will hold a public hearing on the district tax levy at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the administrative center, 15732 Howard St.

The district will seek $197,866,981 in local property taxes (including bond and interest) through the district’s 2012 levy. The proposed 2012 levy request is about 20 percent higher than the 2011 extension of $164,889,151.

District officials expect the difference between the actual 2012 levy and last year’s extension to be less than 20 percent.
