JOLIET — A man was arrested Monday night after he was reportedly seen firing a handgun during a chase down an alleyway.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said police were called at 10:25 p.m. after shots were heard near Second Avenue and Richards Street.
“Witnesses described the chase and officers found shell casings nearby. While searching the area we found the victim in the parking lot of Joliet Central High School,” Roechner said.
The man reportedly told police he’d been walking behind 220 E. Mound St. when Francisco Perez, 33, who’d been standing outside, “asked what his problem was.” Perez then began running after the victim and shot at him, according to reports.
Perez was located nearby and identified as the shooter. Roechner said no gun was found, but Perez had bullets in his pockets that matched the shell casings found earlier.
Perez was booked into the county jail for aggravated discharge of a firearm and unauthorized possession of ammunition. His bond was set at $75,000.
