Illinois House Republicans elected Tom Cross to another term as their leader on Wednesday.
Cross, R-Oswego, starts his sixth two-year term as the House Republican leader. His 97th District includes Plainfield, Shorewood, and parts of far west Joliet.
Cross issued a statement saying House Republicans have made “tremendous progress” in the last two years.
He said the party has focused on job creation and spending reductions, and he noted new legislation to protect student athletes from the risk of concussions.
Cross was first elected to the Illinois House in 1992. He previously was a prosecutor with the Kendall County state’s attorney’s office. He is a partner in the law firm of Mahoney, Silverman & Cross, which has offices in Joliet, Oswego and Chicago.
