Cops: Admitted addict makes no attempt to escape after robbery

JOLIET — After robbing a store to get oxycodone, a 16-year-old self-admitted heroin addict went to the restroom area to get high and made no attempt to escape police, authorities said.
The suspect was arrested after the 7:25 p.m. Tuesday robbery at CVS Pharmacy, 2375 Drauden Road, Joliet police said.
The suspect entered the store and produced what appeared to be a black handgun, but later was determined to be a BB gun, Joliet Police Chief Michael Trafton said. The suspect also had a black rope, police said.
The suspect handed a note to the pharmacy technician and demanded oxycodone pills and packs of 30-gauge needles, police said.
After obtaining the items, the juvenile ran to the restroom area in the back of the store, Trafton said. Officers arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody, police said.
Trafton said heroin is a serious problem in Will County and nationwide.
Trafton said of the case: “It shows how it’s basically ruined this kid’s life. A 16-year-old is giving everything for the drug. It makes no sense to me. He doesn’t even care about going to jail or getting caught. He’s just looking to get another fix. It’s heartbreaking.”

Michelle L. James: 41, of 720 Second Ave. in Woodruff, Wis., was arrested by Bolingbrook police Wednesday on charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
Scott A. Laplante: 27, of 11144 Lemma Creek Road in Woodruff, Wis., was arrested by Bolingbrook police Wednesday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
