New Lenox Township to bring holiday cheer to seniors

Updated: January 4, 2013 6:09AM

On Dec. 15, New Lenox Township once again will board the township bus with Santa and his elves to deliver Christmas cheer to local homebound seniors.

The Santa Bus “Operation Santa Claus” is an annual event sponsored by the township to ensure that New Lenox Township seniors who are homebound are remembered during the holiday season.

“Operation Santa Claus was established for the seniors of the township who are homebound.” said Township Supervisor Bill McCollum. “We visit these seniors who are homebound to deliver some Christmas cheer, a few gifts and some wonderful Christmas carols.”

If you know of a senior citizen in New Lenox that would like a Christmas visit from Santa and his helpers, contact the township offices at 815-485-6431 and ask for Kathie.

Officials also are looking for gift donations to deliver to the seniors.

Items can be dropped off before Dec. 10 at township offices, 1100 S. Cedar Road, New Lenox.

Items needed include writing tablets, pens, pencils, postage stamps, hairbrushes, socks, aftershave, disposable razors, hair cream, cologne, body lotion, deodorant, playing cards, afghans, shawls, fresh fruit, candy bars, raisins, cookies, snacks and juice boxes.
