JOLIET — A Berwyn man allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s residence late Wednesday and waited for her in the dark, then attacked her when she came home.

Bond has been set at $350,000 for Christopher L. McDavid, 31, of 6337 Roosevelt Road, Berwyn, on charges of aggravated battery, unlawful restraint, burglary and home invasion.

Police said McDavid broke into his ex’s residence in the 700 block of Theodore Street late Wednesday without alerting her 91-year-old grandmother to his presence.

He hid in the dark until his ex, who was dropped off by a male friend, came home, police said.

When she came into the residence, McDavid flew into a rage, hitting and kicking the woman and then swinging a knife at her and cutting her arm, police said.

McDavid handed her a cell phone and demanded she call her friend back to the residence so McDavid could confront him, police said. She called, and the friend called police.

Joliet police arrived about 1 a.m., and the victim’s grandmother let them in to arrest McDavid.
