Sometimes, “Santa” is no bigger than the kiddies who receive his toys. Children get an opportunity to act like Santa and bring the holiday spirit to kids in need through “Holiday Heroes.”
A GreenChoice Bank community initiative, children donate new or gently used toys, which are then delivered to Chicago-area agencies for distribution to less fortunate youngsters.
Two participating “Heroes” will receive a special acknowledgement on a magazine’s website and in social media. The children and their parents will be invited to a GreenChoice Bank branch as honored guests.
Each participating child may bring one or more toys to a collection site at any of the GreenChoice Bank locations, where they fill out a Holiday Heroes Deposit Slip. The Hero then hands the slip and “deposits” the toy with a teller.
As an alternative, a Hero can write a 100-word essay on why it’s important to give to the less fortunate. The Hero who donates the most toys is named one top participant, and the child whose essay is judged to be the best also is chosen for recognition.
Toys will be sent for distribution to agencies, including Lockport’s Toys for Tots.
The program runs through Dec. 14. Children up to age 16 are eligible.
A GreenChoice Bank is at 838 S. State St., Lockport.
