A Bolingbrook man was sentenced to 16 years in prison Monday in Wheaton in connection with a seven-member drug ring.
Alfredo Garcia, 36, was the fourth member to be sentenced, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced.
A monthlong investigation had resulted in the arrests of the seven people and the seizure of four kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $120,000 on July 28, 2011, at the La Playa Cantina restaurant in Glen Ellyn, Berlin said.
Garcia will be required to serve 75 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
JOLIET — Two teens who allgedly mugged a 14-year-old boy last week were arrested Monday.
At 3:50 p.m. Thursday the victim was walking near Maple Street and Ridgewood Avenue when the 16- and 15-year-old suspects ran up from behind him, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.
One of the boys held the victim in a “chokehold” while the other demanded money from his backpack while punching him in the face several times.
The backpack contained only schoolbooks so the pair took the 14-year-old’s cell phone and ran from the scene.
“Det. Jim Voudrie heard about the incident and thought it was similar to another robbery he’s investigating. The suspects in that case were put in a photo lineup and identified by (this) victim,” Demick said.
The pair were arrested Monday morning at Joliet Central High School and booked into the River Valley Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of robbery and aggravated battery.
