New Lenox has made progress on the Nelson Road extension, Village Administrator Kurt Carroll told the board Monday.
There had been delays working with BP, he said.
“It was difficult getting their attention,” he said. “We were not No. 1 on their list.”
The issue has been to create a site plan around the existing pipeline that runs nearly parallel to where the road would be.
The village plans to extend Nelson Road between Haven and Illinois Highway. Crossing the pipeline at a 90-degree angle is ideal, which is not the case here.
“We are trying to do a design to get it away from the pipeline as quickly as possible,” Carroll said.
Now, the village has gotten permission to take necessary soil samples in order to make a site plan.
Carroll anticipates within the next few months having the environmental study done in order to complete the site plan.
“The process has never slowed on our part,” Mayor Tim Baldermann said. “We will constantly be bringing the process forward.”
