ELWOOD — The Elwood Village Board heard plans recently for opening of Java Jills.
The project was seeking a Class A liquor license for a coffeehouse, bar, dining and gaming machines, Don Thatcher said. Java Jills is expected to open in March in 1,000 square feet of the existing new mall off Mississippi Street.
Thatcher described the concept as “a low-key gaming experience.” The village will receive “5 percent of whatever we take in on these machines.”
The concept includes five machines and quality coffee, he said. The business would not be in competition with local bars, he said, because it plans on serving liquor in the coffees: “After-dinner libations.”
No minors will be allowed, he said.
The liquor license was approved.
