Updated: January 25, 2013 6:16AM

JOLIET — A fire destroyed a vacant two-story home early Sunday.

At 1:04 a.m. crews arrived at 505 Elwood Ave. to find “heavy fire” coming from the basement and first floor of the two-story wood building. Battalion Chief Ron Schroeder said the house was being renovated.

Firefighters spent about four hours at the scene and one was taken to the hospital after collapsing but was later released. The charred remains of the structure were knocked down later Sunday.
