The Will County Center for Community Concerns announced that funds are available for utility assistance (gas, electric, water) through emergency food and shelter funds.
Households must be at or below 250 percent of the poverty level or have suffered a hardship to receive a one-time direct payment to the utility provider.
The center in Joliet has made changes to its intake process. It requires applicants to bring all documents needed to apply for any program on a visit. If you do not have all required documentation, there will still be a consultation, where the center will outline every piece of documentation you will need at your next visit to have an application taken.
The limit for one household is $500 between all utilities.
Applications will be taken starting Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, or until daily sign-up sheet if full at the center, 304 N. Scott St.
Applications will also be taken at various locations throughout Will County. Call the center at 815-722-0722 or visit the website at www.wcccc.net for outreach locations and schedule, and for information on what documents are needed to apply.
Needed documents include:
Social Security cards for everyone in the household
Income for the last 30 days
A printout that breaks down by month past-due balance for utility (gas, electric, water)
Other documents may be needed based on household situation.
